Class Overview

Practice American Sign Language (ASL) and continue to improve your skills in this engaging intermediate class! Expand your sign language vocabulary and cultural understanding to communicate more effectively.

Continue building your ASL skills learned in our Level 4 class, or comparable experience. Improve your understanding of narrative structure in ASL and movement agreement. Explore and implement more classifiers and grammar concepts in themes of clothing, making requests, and describing neighborhoods. Take a deep dive into a few advanced grammar structures, such as rhetorical questions, conjunctions, and lexicalized fingerspelling, etc.

Learning Objectives

  • Implementing classifiers and grammar concepts such as advanced role playing, conjunctions, rhetorical questions into storytelling, which includes describing clothing, making requests, offering opinions, describing neighborhoods, and more.
  • Increase your ASL vocabulary, including ASL idioms, advanced clothing descriptions, making requests and offering opinions, and more.
  • Gain understanding of cultural and historical aspects of ASL and the American Deaf community.
