Collage: Painting with Paper

Class Overview

Explore the art of collage! With simple materials, you can enjoy a fun, versatile, and meditative technique to make unique works of art.

Get creative using a wide selection of materials, including printed and painted images, a variety of papers, magazines, old books, newspaper clippings, fabric scraps, and natural objects, plus painting and drawing materials. Experimentation is encouraged!

For inspiration, we will look at art from a variety of sources that range from a Japanese manuscript from the early 12th century to works by Picasso, Matisse, Kara Walker, and other renowned collage artists. We will explore various forms of collage such as papier collé, photomontage, and appliqué.

Many people find that collage art promotes mindfulness, stress relief, and artistic development, offering a low-pressure creative outlet for self-expression. You can experiment with colors, themes, and textures, while following your intuition.
