Ceramics: Intro to Hand Building

Class Overview

Experience the joy of working with clay! This class welcomes people with no experience to get started making simple functional items by hand. 

Explore the basics of hand-building and the skills necessary to create small functional wares. Over eight weeks, you’ll learn the entire ceramic process from raw clay through building, glazing and finishing food-safe unique ceramic wares. 

Learn slab and coil building to make vases, mugs, jars, and more! The instructor will cover the glaze process and how chemistry plays a role in making pottery food safe.

By the end of class, you can expect to walk away with your own handcrafted food-safe and dishwasher-safe wares to use at home and show off proudly to friends and family.
