Say "Hello" in Nine Languages

Howdy! In how many languages can you say simple greetings and basic phrases? Use this as a self-guided quiz to see how many "hellos" you know, and our list has nine languages that we teach. 

Here you will see just one example of a greeting, though most languages have many ways to greet others based on various factors such as how well you know someone, the time of day, age, and more.

  • American Sign Language - Gesture with one hand from the head outward in a small salute
  • Chinese - 你好 - "nee-how"
  • English - Hello - "heh-LOH"
  • French - Salut - "sah-LUU" (the "u" is a rounded sound, like pursing your lips while saying "ee")
  • German - Hallo - "HAH-loh"
  • Italian - Ciao - "chow"
  • Japanese - こんにちは - "kon-nee-chee-wah"
  • Korean - 안녕하세요 - "ahn-nyoung-ha-say-yo"
  • Spanish - Hola - "OH-lah"
