Kasumi Yamashita

Kasumi is a writing instructor. She is Japanese American and was raised bilingual in New York City. She graduated from New York University and studied abroad in Spain, Brazil, and Japan. She pursued graduate studies in International Relations and Cultural Anthropology at Harvard University. 

Currently, Kasumi is an online Instructor at the Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education (SPICE) and teaches in the Interpretation and Translation Program at Bellevue College.

She interprets for King County Superior Court and for the University of Washington. Kasumi also engages in historical research and translation projects for the Japanese American community.

Kasumi's Teaching Style & Approach

Kasumi empowers students by encouraging their self-expression through language, writing, and artistic endeavors. She enjoys exploring issues concerning diversity, equity, and inclusion with her students.

She mentors high school students, aids them with their college application essays and offers guidance to students interested in studying abroad.
