Class Overview
This course will introduce you to the language of algebra. If you (or your child) will be taking Algebra I next term and would like a head start, or you would like to review Algebra I skills to build your foundation, this course is for you!
Learn to recognize patterns and solve problems using tables, graphs, and equations. Then apply what you have learned to real-world concepts. You will learn to analyze and solve expressions, equations, linear and non-linear functions, polynomials, quadratic and exponential functions, radical and rational functions.
You will also learn how to analyze data using probability and statistics. This course, Part B, covers the second half of Algebra I. It is complemented by Part A, which covers the first half of Algebra I.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Solve exponential functions and sequences
- Multiply and factor polynomials
- Graph quadratic functions and solve quadratic equations
- Solve radical and rational equations
- Use trigonometric ratios to solve problems
- Understand how to solve problems using simple matrices
- Solve permutations, combinations, and compound events
- Determine theoretical and experimental probability
- Translate between different forms of representation such as from a written description to an equation
- Express relationships algebraically as number sentences, equations, or inequalities
Supplies Needed
Please have a notebook and calculator (preferably a TI-84 but any graphing calculator will do) for class. No textbook is needed.
