Class Overview

Learn how to carve a simple block of wood into an elegant pice of useful art! Explore how to elevate the natural beauty of the wood with detailed leaf designs. This rewarding class is ideal for both beginners and those with some experience in wood carving. 

You’ll enjoy creating realistic textures and shapes that mimic the natural forms of leaves. The instructor will guide you step by step, from choosing the right tools to shaping and refining your carving. 

By the end of the class, you’ll have a hand-carved wooden leaf, showcasing the techniques you’ve learned. No previous experience is necessary—just an enthusiasm for learning and creating.

 

Supplies Needed

Please bring these items to class:

  • No. 7 Bent Sweep Gouge (10 millimeter) 
  • Flexcut knife (KN13)
  • Cut-resistant gloves and Cut Resistant Tape. You need one cut-resistant glove for your non-dominant hand to hold the project securely and a protective carving roll for the other hand, which grips the knife.
  • F-Clamp
  • Honing strop
  • Pencil

  • Proper use of carving tools and safety techniques
  • How to carve and shape the inside and outside of a wooden bowl
  • Sanding, finishing, and polishing techniques for a professional-grade piece
