Class Overview

Learn how to draw vibrant portraits of people with just a simple graphite pencil, using techniques that have been fine-tuned by the masters. 

Discover how to capture the likeness of a person by learning to see like an artist. In this class, we will explore key principles of drawing such as values, positive and negative space, proportions. Learn how to measure the proportions of your subject using only a pencil. Class will include a variety of activities such as demonstrations, quick sketches, and focused studies of facial features. 

This class is designed to be fun and rewarding for all levels. Get ready to enjoy learning new things and gaining fresh eyes for seeing the world!

Materials

Please purchase these materials at a local art supply store or online, and bring them to class:

  • Sketch pad - 16" x 20"
  • 3 pencils - 2H, HB, 2B
  • Kneaded eraser 
  • Paper stumps​​​​​
  • Small metal pencil sharpener

Class instruction will be modified to individualize instruction so that various level of skills can be addressed. There is a lot of fun, and laughter in the classroom - and students enjoy learning new and exciting things and achieve a fresh eye for seeing the world.
