Anchoring With Confidence

Sail boat with sail down on water at sunset with mountains in background.

Class Overview

Spending a carefree summer night swinging at anchor on your boat is a fabulous feeling. But have you ever spent a sleepless night wondering if your anchor will hold? Knowing how and where to anchor safely is an essential skill for boaters.

Puget Sound and the Salish Sea are an incredible playground for recreational boaters because there are so many places you can anchor overnight. But the tide can change as much as 17 feet overnight, so understanding how to plan for this is important.

In this class, we will look at different types of anchors, rode, and anchoring situations. We will estimate how much rope to use in different situations and look at how wind and current affects boats at anchor. Finally, we will look at situations when two anchors are needed.
